RICARDO PEREZ FOUNDATION AND THE MANOS UNIDAS CELEBRATE WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

El Grupo Corporativo Pérez (The Pérez Corporate Group), La Fundación Ricardo Pérez (the Ricardo Pérez Foundation) and the Manos Unidas ( the United Hands Foundation) held an event on the 5th of June to celebrate World Environment Day. The event took place at the Branch of Ricardo Pérez, SA, which since 2012, includes a garden centre. The garden centre has a wide selection of plants, including oak and guayacanes trees that were distributed towards the end of the event, between the various conservation groups and the Azuero area schools.

Maria Isabel Santana, Sales Manager and Roberto Amaya, Regional Branch Manager of Ricardo Pérez Chitre chaired the event. They began by outlining the history of the Pérez Group and its corporate and social responsibility for preserving the environment. Roberto Amaya recalled how the Grupo Corporativo Pérez, S.A, subscribed in 2011 to a corporation agreement with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Agricultural Development, the ANAM and the Shimatsu Foundation. The presentation included a tribute to the leader of the Shimatsu Foundation the late Jorge Matzufuji. The schools involved in the agreement are the Eneida M. Castillero School, the Tomas Herrera School, Padre Segundo Familiar Cano College and Roberto Amaya welcomed the recent addition of the John F Kennedy School, in Chitre. The four schools with approximately 4,000 students have committed themselves by raising awareness to environmental education amongst young people, for the conservation of natural resources.

During these past years, the Ricardo Perez garden centre and the four schools have jointly distributed and planted over 35,000 seedlings.
The event continued with Francisco Garcia of Ricardo Pérez SA, Chitre, presenting the Toyota Prius car. The Toyota Prius car is a hybrid vehicle with zero emissions of harmful gas to the environment. The Toyota group is a pioneer in this technology, which was first developed in 1993 in Japan.
Also participating on behalf of the Ministry of Agricultural Development, was Engineer Francisco Diaz, the Mayor of Chitre, Olmedo Alonso, the Mayor of Las Tablas, Noe Herrera and Pedro Coparropa, the Vice-President of Social Responsibility. Executive Director of the Foundation Ricardo Pérez Garcia congratulated those for all the excellent work that continues to be developed in Chitre and he praised the volunteers who work anonymously in the conservation of our natural resources.

The event ended with the distribution of thousands of seedlings to various environmental associations, students and the audience.
Dayana Batista a student from José Daniel Crespo College proceeded to read the 10 commandments key to ecological sustainability.
